Olivia and Greg

Posted by Gino on 03 Aug 2011 / 0 Comment

Olivia and Greg had a fantastic day for their wedding on July 16, 2011. I was thrilled to be on hand with my trusty sidekick and assistant Nikki, where we got great weather, great family, and great photos! Olivia and Greg were so easygoing throughout the day, and that makes everything go more smoothly. They were also really interested in getting great shots, and that means putting in the time and effort to get out on the Downingtown Country Club golf course (which is beautiful) to get the shots. We had a great time getting pre-ceremony candids, and everyone was calm, relaxed, and laughing. A good sign, for sure! (more…)

Photographing the Philadelphia Wings

Posted by Gino on 25 Apr 2011 / 0 Comment

Lacrosse moves fast at the pro level. Really fast. Not to mention most of the players are like a foot taller than me on average. Nevertheless, I had the opportunity to get field-side at a recent home game with The Philadelphia Wings and had a really great time. (more…)

Slideshows with Fotomagico Pro

Posted by Gino on 24 Apr 2011 / 0 Comment

I make slideshows all the time. There are lots of ways to do it these days, especially if you’re on a Mac, which I am. Nonetheless, being the software junkie I am, I’m always on the lookout for a better way to do things. I recently downloaded a trial version of Boinx Software’s “Fotomagico Pro” and took it for a spin. It’s pretty nice software, and gets the job done. I will say, however, that it’s a little buggy, crashes sometimes without warning and is more like Windows software than Mac software. (more…)

The Music Centre

Posted by Gino on 18 Mar 2011 / 0 Comment

The Music Centre is a music studio in Exton, PA. I’ve been given the honor of both rebuilding their website as well as supplying photo services. The studio is owned and operated by Glenn Ferracone, an award winning producer and musician. The studio has a great retro feel to it and harkens back to the days of analog recording. They’ve produced piles of albums there (yes I still call them albums and I realize I’m showing my age). (more…)

Posted by Gino on 03 Dec 2010 / 0 Comment

You bought your camera, went to school for photography, and now opportunity knocks! Chester County, PA photography studio seeking to add 1 additional photographer to build out growing wedding photography business. Here’s what we need, and we need all of it…
You must be dependable beyond measure. If your car breaks down, we trust you’ll talk a bus driver into personally driving you to the wedding in exchange for a free portrait session. Anything to get to the gig on time. There’s nothing worse than arriving late to a wedding and starting the day off with an angry bride and her parents… (more…)

Dave and Jen

Posted by Gino on 27 Oct 2010 / 2 Comments

Dave and Jen were referred to me by my neighbor. We spoke early in 2010 and they had their wedding date set for Friday, October 22, 2010. I didn’t have a chance to meet them before their special day, but when I spoke to them on the phone, I knew it was going to be a great time, and I was right in all respects. (more…)

Jessica and Tom’s Family Portrait session

Posted by Gino on 26 Oct 2010 / 0 Comment

Portrait sessions are a blast. But throw a couple of 2 year olds in there and the word “unpredictable” can’t even begin to cover it! Since my wife and I have young kids, we’re pretty unflappable, and as such I was pleased to do a portrait shoot for Tom and Jessica along with their family this past Sunday. The location was Valley Forge National Park, and it’s a wonderful, scenic, historical setting. In fact, I got engaged in the historic Washington Memorial Chapel, so that’s where I decided to meet Jessica and Tom. (more…)

The Power of Black and White

Posted by Gino on 21 Oct 2010 / 0 Comment

There are lots of reasons to shoot black and white, but, with all the cool tools available to us photographers, it makes more sense to shoot in color and then do your conversion in post-production. But, the question still remains: How do you decide what to convert to black and white? Not every picture deserves it. In this post, I’ll try to share some of my thinking on how I make the decision, and then how I get my images ready to be converted.

Panoramics are cool.

Posted by Gino on 05 Oct 2010 / 0 Comment

When I first thought about the idea of shooting a panoramic, I did what most other photographers probably do: I started searching for software to make the job easier. I found free software. I found paid software. Now, I only work on Macs, so free or not, it had to be mac-compatible. (more…)

To HDR or not to HDR?

Posted by Gino on 29 Sep 2010 / 0 Comment

I bought Photomatix in 2008 not even completely sure what I was supposed to do with it. I was in that phase where I figured the more software I bought that had to do with photography the better my photos would look, right? HAHAHHAHAHAHHA. Man was I way off. Nonetheless, I decided to give it a whirl, and I think the real issue was that I was taking pictures of things that really didn’t need an HDR treatment. They were bad pictures, and that made them worse in HDR…My brother used to say, “you can’t polish a turd.” I guess he was right. (more…)

Katie and Mike

Posted by Gino on 29 Sep 2010 / 0 Comment

I was really honored to take photos of Katie and Mike this past Friday. They came to me as a referral last year when I was really starting to get my wedding business of the ground. I remember it was really snowy, and since they lived in Philadelphia, it was going to be rough getting there. I drove down and found a parking spot that could only be reached in a 4 x 4 vehicle. Luckily, that happened to be what I was driving at the time! (more…)

Jill and Arun

Posted by Gino on 15 Aug 2010 / 1 Comment

Jill and Arun had a really great wedding. Combining 2 religious ceremonies with a beautiful, scenic background and a wonderful outdoor event, it was everything you could hope for on your wedding day.

Jill and Arun came to me on somewhat short notice, so I was happy to be able to step in and cover this wonderful event (not to mention it was 8 minutes from my home). Springton Manor Farm is actually kind of my photographic “Area 51.” Basically, every time I get some new equipment, I tend to drive over to Springton Manor Farm to try it out. Therefore, the number of photos I have taken there is in the several hundreds…This, however, would be my first wedding there, so I felt comfortable knowing the terrain and was really pumped to see how they did weddings. Kelly and Andy

Posted by Gino on 06 Aug 2010 / 1 Comment

Let me start out by saying I love Columbia Station. Having lived out in Mont Clare for a number of years, it’s been great to watch the Phoenixville area turn into a mini-Manayunk. Kelly and Andy apparently agreed, and had a fantastic reception there as well as a beautiful ceremony right off the main line. (more…)

Off to the Bahamas with a Panny LX3

Posted by Gino on 29 Jul 2010 / 0 Comment

My wife and I decided to take a “leave-the-kids-at-home” vacation this year for the first time since 2006. We decided that it would be our first time going to Miami. It would be our first time on a cruise ship. It would be, for me, the first time I’ve seen blue water, and it would be the first time I planned to take a point-and-shoot camera on a trip that could have easily benefited from my Canon 5d Mark II… (more…)

Ballet X in Philadelphia

Posted by Gino on 25 Jun 2010 / 1 Comment

Last night I had the privilege of being on hand for the Ballet X 5 Year Anniversary party. Being a non-profit in Philadelphia is tough: there are a ton of talented organizations and, unfortunately, not always enough funding to keep them all afloat. Ballet X knows that, too, and last night they gave a heartfelt “thank you” to all those who have contributed to their growth over the last 5 years. (more…)
